From life under Brazil’s brutal ‘cordial racism’ in the city of Porto Alegre to the Chocó, home of the largest Afro-Colombian population in Colombia, a conversation in Spanish (with some Portuguese and English thrown in) with the rising literary stars of South America, Jeferson Tenório and Velia Vidal. This discussion will draw on the brand new and much anticipated English translations of their respective works, Tenório’s "The Dark Side of Skin," and Vidal’s "Tidal Waters," stories about fathers and sons, sex and love, rivers and forests, and a way of reading and writing your way into a known place for a new self.
